Choking the onions

The onions are choking.

They've been choking for 3 weeks now and all I've done is feel guilty as I walk past.

Until yesterday morning.

"I'll just weed the first row," I said to myself. "It'll only take 5 minutes."

Half an hour later, and none of the onions are choking any more. They're all fine, upstanding alliums, unencumbered by bindweed and doing their best to grow large and juicy.

And all because I remembered the magical powers of just getting started.

I've put off weeding that veg bed for a bunch of reasons, none of them good. And so I've wasted more time worrying about the onions than it took me to just do the bloody weeding.

I apply this principle to writing, too.

"I'll just write for 5 minutes, then I'll go and do [the totally irrelevant thing I'm trying to resist]."

An hour later, I've written 2,150 words and I'm feeling well smug.

This magical principle of just getting started, when combined with creating a writing habit, is incredibly powerful.

Like, superhero-level powerful.

Like one of my members said: "I wrote of list of over 60 topics I'd like to explore & find stories from and I started on my first page - amazing start for me - thank you!"

And another: "I finished the first outline of my book! Next, I’ll go through and add more detail"

More: "today I downloaded my brain with 1586 words of freewriting about my first memories of pets"

And more: "Just watched this! 998 words - only one trip to get biscuits which is impressive for me! See you Friday!"

The obvious benefit of my live writing sessions is getting a BIG chunk of work done at extreme focus.

But I reckon the real big benefit is how smug we feel by 8 am 🙂

Come and join us. It's a really cool group and you will be AMAZED at how much you get done. you don't have to be writing a book. You can write anything.

Join us here – and we'll see you bright and early on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings!

p.s. if you can't make the live sessions, don't let that put you off. You get the recording, and they're just as good (the lady who has the biscuit problem wrote 998 words doing the recorded session).

If you can make it live, though, it's Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 7 am UK time. I'll be adding more sessions in the next few weeks too.

See you there?
